Environmental News...

"To save a tree, remove a Bush" - bumper sticker I saw a few days ago.

Obviously, it's a bit too late to remove a Bush... But man the news in the natural resources and environmental world has just made me angrier and angrier. Maybe I should go to law school so I can sue all these stupid politicians. Want to know why I am upset with the current administration, and the next 4 years will be soooo painful??

Bad:
Audit: EPA minimized mercury risks - Internal agency report finds rules based on industry plan

Good:
Rule on shooting gray wolves overturned - Judge: Bush administration violated Endangered Species Act

Battle:
Calif. sues U.S. over Sierra logging plan

Not looking good:
House to move on arctic refuge drilling

Don't even get me STARTED!!:
U.S. Waters Down Global Commitment to Curb Greenhouse Gases

  1. Speaking as a law student I think you'd be more effective as an activist rather than by suing (although suing can compliment the activist nature).  I think one of the most pressing matters is the issue of mercury in our environment.  Quite a few scientists believe that mercury is leading to an astounding amount of birth defects and natural abortions.  I'm afraid to even eat a can of tuna knowing that fish has some of the highest levels of mercury of food.

  2. Thanks for your comment!

Heh heh yeah I think I'll pass on law school and just continue to write emails to my elected officials. It's much cheaper than tuition. ;)

And I definitely agree with you about mercury in fish - it's scary to think that around the Great Lakes, each state has different levels of what they consider to be "safe" amounts of mercury and other pollutants. What might not be advisable in Michigan, for example, might be considered within acceptable limits in Ohio!!

  3. But isn't it good to kill off all the gray wolves?  I mean, they're like coyotes, right?  And those menacing coyotes terrorize beautiful little towns like Northville and Novi!  What about our poodles?  Leaving the wolves and coyotoes means that they'll eat our poodles and other pets that can't defend themselves, the poor things.  I think I'm going to vomit now.
